About Us
Where we started
North Delta is not known for its crisp, cold, winter afternoons, ice sports, or outdoor skating rinks - so how did Sungod Skating Club come into being? Thanks to a group of invested ice skaters, the club grew from a grassroots initiative to a respected skating club.
Skating Club Timeline
1971
Plans for an ice skating arena in North Delta are in the works and a small group of people begin to dream up a skating club. A $35 donation from Parks and Rec starts the Skating Club bank account.
Pre-registration is held for anyone interested in skating in Delta. The first official skating club meeting is full - each family in attendance pays $1 to help the club on its way.
The Sungod Skating Club is officially registered as a society and is sanctioned through the Canadian Figure Skating Association.
1972
Still without an ice rink, Sungod Skating Club holds its first registration. 1450 ice skaters sign up!
The North Delta Recreation skating rink opens and becomes the club’s home rink.
1973
The first Sungod Skating Club carnival is held. Everyone participates!
